Now I am REALLY bragging

Sebastian is very, very taken with reading and writing at the moment (some 'rithmetic too). Last week, he "read" his 1st book (Mum's new hat) in English. He is rightfully chuffed. Sophie is thrilled to have a new reader in the family, and pipes up right after him. Now, as wise Mrs Cormier said: If they can memorise, they can read.

In one sitting, he roared through a workbook that his grandparents had given him. It was fairly easy with tracing and writing letters plus word play activities. Based on that, we agreed to do 10 minutes of "homework" every evening. He likes it b/c of the individual attention and that Sophie starts getting ready for bed first. He likes for me to play the teacher and hand out motivational stickers, but he takes guidance and correction well.

We want to veer language tracks and ramp up his French speaking and reading. So, we took some time today to get more French workbooks and learn to read primers. The school hasn't been very helpful in making such materials available to us at home. We'll see how jumbled he becomes. He rushed to school today, eager to read "le, la, mon, ma, ton, ta and son, sa" to his teacher.
