My love the hockey fan
I love watching my love watch hockey. Put a Habs match on and a whole other side comes out.
Ask Seb: He is like a coach. He talks to the players a lot. He encourages them. He lets me stay up late. Partly because he likes a watching buddy, partly because I like it so much. I appreciate it.
But I still can't get him to be silly enough and do the wave.
Political priorities of a 4 year old
The radio was on over breakfast this morning and I was excitedly querying whether the NDP would make big gains in next week's national election.
Sophie: What are you talking about, Mama?
Me: Choosing a government. The people who will make decisions for all Canadians. Decisions like how much money to take from us and whether to spend it on schools, doctors, armies, roads, how much we can pollute, which countries to be friends with and which ones are "misbehaving" (Sophie's new word of caution) and so on.
Sophie: Oh.
Me: What do you think should be the most important thing in choosing a leader?
Sophie: Whether they litter and clean up after themselves.
Not bad advice.

A loyal follower
We lost a loyal wedgley follower this weekend. Someone who would pour over every detail on the blog, laugh at the children's antics, revel in their accomplishments and pine that they were so far away - but never complain and limit our potential.
Seb & Sophie's great-grandmother, Nannie Gen, died early in the morning. It was quick but we all miss her already. She always made me feel like her amazing grandson had found the most wonderful catch - talk about a warm welcome to the family.
We'll hold your memory, warmth and strength close to us, Nannie/Gen.
Love you.

Panama Perspective
It was terrific to get away and visit Panama for work. Who would have thought! I didn't leave the hotel much but I did get a day to see the famous canal (impressive) and climb an observation tower in the rain forest - where we saw little but heard howler monkeys (and swung on a vine). But the best bit was visiting with an old colleague from south Sudan days; indeed, on Friday night we shared a lovely meal outdoors in the pleasant old quarter of Panama City.

Drive by shooting
It was a Sprockets weekend. In addition to some terrific children's films from around the world, there was the green room again, button-making, balloon animals and dress up - all of extremely high quality.
And then there was the special effects make-up that drew the 7 year old boys.
You should have seen the looks we got on the streetcar home!
