Homegrown and taste soooo good

remember that bag of green tomatoes?

Tossed with zucchini "noodles" and pesto and then topped with Sophie's favourite - halloumi

We did good (even if the squirrel did its best to thwart us!)

Oops - I did it again

I am struggling a bit with having the right quantity of fresh fruit and vegetables for 2 weeks. So some, ummm, get tossed, But others can just about get salvaged if roasted

and then blended up with garlic and topped with pan-seared tofu and served with a full-bodied red!

Birthdays galore - part 2

This amazing box arrived from England

and look what it contained!

I have never had a Central-Eastern Canadian birthday warm enough to eat outdoors

In a distanced way, these fine folks (complete with sun hats!) treated me to a picnic

Sophie treated me to a hair style (mock mohawk was the aim)

and a dear friend made cake!!

New harvest tradition

A neighbour has a lovely tradition of harvesting the last of her herbs just before first frost and making a sauce. So Seb & I tackled that challenge.
Last of the peppers

Our selection

Picking and washing the leaves

Blending them up with some olive oil

And voila! Lunch.

Birthdays galore - part 1

Could this be his last birthday at home? Gulp...
Presents to start the day

Pouring over his high school yearbook with his dad and sis

17...

Happy lad

The next day was spent at virtual openhouses for Engineering at Waterloo and UBC
& assembling the ISS!

We tried to have an authentic road trip vibe with coffee in travel mugs and road snacks
(which he hogged!)

Birthday boy!

Since this blog started when Sophie was born, there are no images of baby Seb. Until now...

It's hard to get a 100 year old and a one-year old to look at the camera!

Hallowe’en 2020??

There is one house on Roncesvalles that always does up a memorable pumpkin...

The teens did some house/garden decorating

Sophie said that she was an "old man" - Dad jeans and a baggy Grandpa sweater

Geek kids

Mike noted that our son - of his own accord - got a book (The Checklist Manifesto) by New Yorker writer Atul Gawande out of the library because it was recommended by a podcast as a good resource to learn about how to be organized.

Not to be outdone, it should be noted that one of Sophie's requests from the library for recreational reading this summer was a book about climate change.
